Barens 48 Sea Trader Ketch - For Sale - Boats - Monohulls
Please note: This advertisement was posted on 8th September 2017, post Hurricane Irma, through which she rode out happily and emerged unscathed.

In 2009 I found Bimbling in Tortola and bought her, almost on a whim, to fulfill one of my “Bucket List” objectives. That was to sail the Caribbean and live the no shoes, no frills life as a Sailing Gypsy, and I have to say that is has been the most rewarding and most liberating experience of my life to date.

Living the dream? I certainly am, but as in all of life’s experiences dreams change over time, and of course they are governed by what is left on the money tree to continue financing them. Now the changes have persuaded me that it is perhaps the right time to move on to other challenges, therefore, reluctantly, I list my home, my transport and my lifestyle for sale

My beautiful 48 foot cutter rigged ketch "Bimbling" is this vessel, the change in my circumstances will present a possible coup to any prospective buyer. I know from many conversations with wannabee Sailing Gypsies that there are those amongst you out there who would love this lifestyle.

Alternatively, although she is something of a "Project" vessel she could massively benefit from a new owner who would have the financial wherewithal to restore her from her current state of faded elegance to her former glory. For those prospective purchasers the current exchange rate would buy this substantial vessel for circa US$30,000.

Bimbling is a first class, massively built cruising ketch capable of taking a seagoing couple and/or occasional guests in safety and comfort to any part of the globe. It was high on my list of requirements when I purchased her nearly 8 years ago that she should offer the high degree of stability and sea kindliness that her long keel and heavy displacement affords. This vessel is an ideal long term liveaboard with an uncluttered interior and masses of storage lockers. She shows beautiful lines from her clipper bow aft, and has a deep dry centre cockpit.

Bimbling is somewhat less suited to the role of dayboat/weekend cruiser or racer; she is, however, a perfectly functional ocean going yacht with basic but civilized long term living accommodation.

For the more experienced sailor she can be sailed single-handed.
